Metakovan revealed as owner of F1® Delta Time’s “1-1-1”, the highest-priced NFT of 2019
11 November 2020: Animoca Brands Corporation Limited (“Animoca Brands” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that the buyer of the “1-1-1” digital race car non-fungible token (NFT) has come forward. The news was disclosed during episode #82 of the Blockchain Gaming World podcast, when the Company revealed that Metakovan is the owner of the 1-1-1, which he won at auction last year with a winning bid of 415.9 WETH (Wrapped Ether).
Metakovan is an entrepreneur, coder, and angel investor in blockchain technology since 2013, Y-Combinator alumnus, DeFi OG, blockchain native, and digital nomad. He acquired the 1-1-1 for the portfolio of premium NFTs in his crypto-exclusive fund, Metapurse.
Blockchain Gaming World podcast host Jon Jordan invited Animoca Brands co-founder and chairman Yat Siu, Metakovan, and Alex Atallah, the co-founder and CTO of OpenSea, to discuss the landmark sale of the 1-1-1, trends in the blockchain market, and the future of tokenized digital assets. Listen to the podcast here.
Additionally, the creator of the 1-1-1 has written an expanded personal account of the digital car’s auction and the Company’s more than year-long attempt to identify the buyer. The piece is titled “Saga of the 1–1–1: solving the mystery of 2019’s most expensive NFT” and is available on Medium.
Twobadour, steward of the Metapurse fund, commented: ”[W]e're in the process of showcasing Metakovan’s unique collection of digital assets, of which the F1® Delta Time 1-1-1 is a gem. The 1-1-1 is indeed a unique creation and reflects Metakovan’s convictions about this space, and about the quality and undeniable appeal of Animoca Brands’ work.”
Yat Siu, the co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands, said: “After nearly a year and a half we finally know that Metakovan is the owner of the 1-1-1, and we couldn’t be happier. I am very grateful to Metakovan, whose participation sent a strong signal and set the tone for F1® Delta Time’s mixture of luxury and motorsport fun. I also extend my deepest appreciation to our talented team and our wonderful community of F1® Delta Time players.”
The 1-1-1: a milestone in digital motorsport
In May of 2019, Animoca Brands sold a record-setting non-fungible token (NFT) called the 1-1-1, the first digital car for the officially licensed blockchain game F1® Delta Time. The winning bid of 415.9 Wrapped Ether made the 1-1-1 the most expensive NFT sold in 2019, one of the highest priced game-based virtual assets, the priciest virtual car in history, and the highest sum ever paid for a branded game NFT. The identity of the buyer, however, remained a mystery until late 2020, when it was revealed to be Metakovan.
