Animoca Brands warns that fraudulent “ANIMOCA” token is not associated with the company

13 September 2021 -- HONG KONG -- Animoca Brands today issued a scam alert about a new ERC-20 token on Uniswap V2 that fraudulently claims to be from Animoca Brands, with the symbol “ANIMOCA”. Animoca Brands wishes to make it clear that this fraudulent token has no connection to the company. 

 

Additionally, the company wishes to emphasize that Animoca Brands and its operated projects will never directly reach out to individuals to arrange sales of tokens (refer to screenshots below).

 

The Etherscan entry of the fraudulent token may be viewed at https://etherscan.io/token/0x7cd9697d5390a0b04479deed5ec3735c8eeec548. The token name indicated in the smart contract is “Animoca Brands” and the symbol is “ANIMOCA”. These details are entirely fraudulent.

The scammers have set up a fake Telegram channel at https://t.me/AnimocaBrands_official, operated by a user with the Telegram handle “@Group_Administrat0r”. This channel is not associated with Animoca Brands. We have reported these facts to Telegram.

 

The scam’s modus operandi is to request users who are interested in the fraudulent “token sale” to initiate a private Telegram chat with the group admin. In the private chat, the scammer pressures users to take part in the fake sale by sending funds to the following Ethereum wallet address:

By purporting to be connected to Animoca Brands, the persons associated with the fraudulent token are attempting to mislead and defraud the public through the theft of the business identity of Animoca Brands and the hijacking of its brand and reputation. 

 

We strongly urge the public to stay away from this fraudulent token and any related activities, including social media and messaging apps. Do not interact with this token or the scammers behind it in any manner, and if you have already received or bought some of these tokens, then consider switching to a new wallet immediately in order to reduce your risk of being targeted in future scams.
